SMS Cross Country Takes Top Places at District Meet

The Sherman Middle School cross country teams took first place as they and Piner Middle School competed in the North Texas Middle School League Championship hosted at SMS on Oct. 18.

Below are the top five finishers for the SMS girls, who had a team total of 66, 20 ahead of second place:

• Jasmine Ortiz - 3rd (14:52)
• Kyndall Macon - 7th (15:23)
• Hailey Holcomb - 10th (16:06)
• Emma Basker - 15th (17:03)
• Aliyah Prado - 31st (20:32)

The SMS boys team's race was closer, as they finished with 79 points, only three points ahead of second. The five fastest runners were:

• Roman Schwartzkopf - 11th (12:49)
• Christopher Leon - 12th (12:51)
• Reily Reynolds - 16th (13:05)
• Santiago Morales - 18th (13:09)
• Brayden Frucci - 22th (13:18)

The Piner girls did not have a team score listed, but their top four had solid finishes:

• Elizabeth Posada - 8th (15:24)
• Leah Jones - 17th (17:25)
• Melanie Hernandez - 27th (20:20)
• Lisseth Pleitez - 28th (20:21)

The Piner boys team finished fifth overall, and their leading racers were:

• Mason Christman - 23rd (13:24)
• Luke Kenworthy - 28th (13:33)
• Victor Orellana - 38th (13:54)
